‘I walk at least 40 miles in the countryside every week and it’s while walking that all the most important parts of the stories that I write take form.’ Tom Cox
England’s West Country is a land full of mysticism and folklore. For Tom Cox, while technically speaking his books are written at home in front of a computer screen, in an important sense they're written long before that on foot while he walks forty miles through the landscape each week, generating feelings and ideas, making notes and taking photographs, 12 of which are collected for this 2022 calendar. These photos, insightfully captioned by Tom, give a flavour of a certain diverse psychedelic earth magic that’s found only in the west, and that Tom continues to aim to capture on the page.
Tom Cox is the author of thirteen books, including the Shirley Jackson Award-winning Help The Witch and the Alfred Wainwright prize longlisted 21st-Century Yokel. Over the last few years he has lived in various parts of the UK’s south west. His debut novel, Villager, covering almost two decades in the life of a West Country village, will be published in April 2022.
