I am an Artist longlisted for the UKLA Book Awards

We're so excited to find out that I am an Artist written by Kertu Sillaste and translated from Estonian by Adam Cullen has been longlisted for the Information Books category in the 2023 UKLA (UK Literary Association) Book Awards!

The UKLA Book Awards are the only national children's book awards to be judged by teachers. The UKLA Book Awards seek to celebrate children’s books in order to encourage teachers to increase their professional and personal knowledge of recently published high quality children’s books and to promote the place of books for young people in all educational settings from nursery to key stage 4.

The awards are made up of four categories: 3-6+, 7-10+, 7-14+ and Information Books. You can find out more about I am an Artist below:

What is an artist? Sometimes John finds art easy, sometimes it’s hard, sometimes art is like a game, but sometimes it’s a puzzle. This book takes us through the many ups and downs of John’s life as an artist whilst also showing the fun that can be had with many different artforms, including drawing, sculpture, painting, photography and many more.

Being an artist is about being brave, frustrated and disappointed. But it’s also about being creative, imaginative, excited and fulfilled - which makes it a wonderful thing for all children to say with confidence ... ‘I am an ARTIST!’

'This is honestly the best book I have ever come across on making art for children. (And for a few of us grown-ups, as well.) Vibrant, encouraging, inspirational, quirky and curious; a wondrous, interactive book for home or classroom…utterly marvellous in every way.' Mary Esther Judy, Fallen Star Stories
