A graphic novel interpretation of the Aberfan Disaster, told from the perspective of a single family. On 21 October 1966 a mountain of slurry rushed down a hillside and engulfed the small village of Aberfan, Merthyr Tydfil, causing the deaths of 144 people including many children just starting their school day.

The author’s own family members lived through the disaster. This book focuses on their story, whilst also reflecting the massive impact it had on the village as a whole.

About the Author / Illustrator

Jack Lewis is a young Welsh speaking artist and illustrator from Merthyr Tydfil. A recent graduate from the Kingston School of Art, London, Jack likes to focus on Welsh language, history, culture,people and mythology and has recently exhibited his artwork at Cynon Valley Museum, Aberdare as part of the ‘Valleys Re-told’ project with Amgueddfa Cymru. Aberfan: A Family Story is based on Jacks’ family’s own experiences of the Aberfan Disaster living in the village at the time.Jack currently lives in Cardiff
