The first of two volumes covering the history of tramcar operation in Glasgow. The book narrates the story of the city’s impressive network from its origins as a horse tramway in the 1870s, through the early years of electrification and expansion during the first decades of the 20th century through to World War II. The book also focuses on locations in the southern half of the city, including South of the Clyde, Glenfield, Mosspark, Burnside, Admiral Street and more.
Peter Waller’s first book, British and Irish Tramway Systems since 1945, was published in 1992 and since then he has written extensively on transport subjects. He is now a full-time author and editor as well as being a director and secretary of the Online Transport Archive.
