Collection: Archie Miles

A professional photographer for almost fifty years, Herefordshire based author Archie Miles has always had an abiding passion for landscape and natural history. A specialisation over the last thirty years has seen him carving a distinctive niche in the world of trees. He has travelled the length and breadth of the British Isles to photograph many of the country’s greatest and rarest trees as well as a huge diversity of woodland types. He holds an extensive library of tree images as well as an archive of historical tree images.

Archie occasionally appears on radio and TV and delivers illustrated lectures to a wide variety of audiences. Previous books on trees include Silva – The Tree in Britain in 1999, The Hidden Trees of Britain in 2007, A Walk in the Woods for the Woodland Trust in 2009 and The British Oak in 2013. In 2006, he also wrote and photographed the tie-in book for a popular BBC2 TV series – The Trees that made Britain (reissued 2021). In 2004, he was principal photographer and art director for The Heritage Trees of Britain and Northern Ireland and in 2006 undertook the same roles for Heritage Trees of Scotland. Treescape was published in 2016 and most recently his monograph ASH was published in 2018.
