James Mayhew is an acclaimed author, illustrator, storyteller and concert presenter. Best known for the bestselling Katie and Ella Bella Ballerina series, he has also created numerous books for Graffeg, including The Knight Who Took All Day, Koshka's Tales, the Gaspard series with Zeb Soanes, and the beloved Mouse and Mole books by Joyce Dunbar, which were adapted into an animated television series featuring the voices of Alan Bennett and Richard Briers.

An internationally recognised live illustrator, James regularly performs with leading orchestras, creating paintings on stage to accompany classical music. He was awarded the prestigious New York Times Best Illustrated Book prize in 1994.
