Archival photograph taken from Lost Tramways of Wales: Cardiff.

Caption reads: ‘With the Empire Theatre on the left, three of the system’s early open-top double-deck cars make their way along Queen Street. The theatre was originally built in 1887 but the building seen here was
the result of reconstruction, designed by the noted theatre architect Frank Matcham in 1900 following a fire. The theatre was converted into a cinema in 1937. It was demolished in 1962 following closure.’

This range of prints derived from the Lost Tramways of Wales book series captures a range of fascinating historical street scenes from around Wales. Each provides a glimpse into the character and social history of these towns and cities during the early 20th century and the landmarks and familiar streets which have been transformed or maintained over the decades.

Captions by series author Peter Waller accompany each image, documenting the period, location and vehicles featured.

A beautifully presented item for all enthusiasts of Welsh history and heritage and an ideal gift.
