Albie, the farmer’s dog, wakes up one morning to find that his companion Nellie has disappeared. Where has she gone? They are normally always together by the fire in the kitchen, or playing in the garden and the surrounding fields. Albie’s journey to find Nellie takes him through familiar and strange places, where he encounters a cast of characters.
Written by John Milton, Paradise Found is a beautifully detailed and vivid journey through the countryside and local community, stunningly illustrated with colourful and expressive paintings by Helen Elliott.
John Milton’s background spans both music and engineering. He dedicates time away from running a ship repair yard in his native Hull to write children’s stories. A chance meeting with Helen Elliott, a childhood friend, sparked this ‘day in the life’ story of her dog, Albert.
Helen Elliott is an internationally acknowledged artist, best known for her distinctive naivie-style paintings of South Wales. Her first book, Creative Me, was published in 2016. She has also produced a series of Colouring Books based on Welsh countryside and coastlines.
Reviews:
‘Curious children will love the diverse locations as they follow the little dog’s quest and encourage them to take an interest in the world around them. The glorious illustrations look like stained glass windows on a sunny day and will capture your imagination.‘ Zoe James-Williams, The South Wales Evening Post
‘Heavier on text than most picture books, this paints a lovely picture that will make children appreciate the world and the people around them – and the bond between the two dogs. They will relish exploring the detail in the pictures and learning as they do.’ Parents in Touch
