Pretty Maids is a book about thirty remarkable women who have been paid the exquisite, fragrant compliment of having flowers named in their honour.
This unique book celebrates both the lives of the women and the beauty of the flowers dedicated to them. Thirty ‘Pretty Maids’ are featured with biographies of each illustrated with photographs and paintings. Complementing each maid is a photograph of the eponymous flower as well as horticultural notes on how to grow it to the best advantage. A fitting tribute to remarkable women and their floral namesakes.
‘This book will give you, the reader, the pleasure of getting to know a little bit more about some of the wonderful women throughout history who have had this very special tribute paid to them. Their names will love forever in the beauty and fragrance of flowers.’ Gloria Hunniford OBE
Sadly Mari Griffith was diagnosed with cancer whilst writing this book Pretty Maids and was unwell for much of the time she spent diligently researching and preparing the final text for publication. Mari won the race to finish the work, but subsequently died on Monday 13 May 2019 in Y Bwthyn Newydd; the hospice run by The Princess of Wales Hospital, Bridgend. Mari had wanted the book to be published in time to be launched at the Chelsea Flower Show, in May. All royalties are to be donated to The Caron Keating Foundation, The Marie Curie Foundation and to Macmillan Cancer Support as Mari had wished.
Produced in support of The Caron Keating Foundation.
Mari Griffith’s first novel Root of the Tudor Rose became an Amazon best seller, soon followed by The Witch of Eye, the story behind the most sensational treason trial of the 15th century.
