    Julia Hubery was born in Stamford and trained as an architect. She loves the countryside and nature, finding it a pool of inspiration to draw on in her writing. Julia now lives in Gosport with her husband and three children. She has published 16 picture books, translated into many languages, including When Granny Saved Christmas, A Little Fairly Magic and That’s What Friends are For - all with Little Tiger Press.

    Laura Wood is originally from Treviglio, a small town in the north of Italy. She studied illustration in Melbourne, Australia, but now lives and works in Milan with her two cats. Since 2012, Laura has illustrated picture books, junior fiction, magazines and textbooks.

  • Dee and Flee are the best of friends. Dee is a dog and Flee is flea (or is he an intergalactic explorer?). They share adventures in haunted Howl Castle, at Paradise Beach and on the Boom Band Boogie Bus, as Dee and Flee find there’s fun to have, memories to make, people to help and skills to learn in all sorts of hospitality and tourism roles.

Their 36-member tourism boards work together to build the value of tourism across diverse European destinations through cooperation in best-practice sharing, market intelligence, and promotion.

  • The European Travel Commission is pleased to offer financial support to publishers within Europe for the translation and publication of two children’s series from Graffeg, Dee and Flee and Searchlight. This initiative aims to foster a deeper understanding and appreciation of the tourism sector among young readers.

    Funding Available
    Grants of up to €3,500 per title are available, with an additional provision of €500 dedicated to marketing efforts.

    Eligibility Criteria
    To be considered for this grant, publishers must be located in one of the European Travel Commission member countries and specialise in publishing in one of these countries' national languages.   • Application Requirements

    Applicants must provide comprehensive details, including publisher and translator information, proposed first print run, cost evaluation, additional funding sources, and a publishing schedule.     About the Titles

    The grant covers two titles designed to introduce children to the world of tourism, encouraging them to explore career opportunities in travel, hospitality and beyond in a series planned to inspire the next generation.
