Fletcher Story Walks
Fletcher's Four Seasons are being used throughout North America to create Story Walks to encourage family engagement with nature and outdoors.
A story walk is an outdoor trail for families, which combines reading children's books with a physical activity, and sometimes other activities too. Families follow pictures left as clues or “checkpoints” along the trail that relate to characters or elements from the book that have been hidden around the outdoor space. We've been so pleased to see Fletcher used in North America and want to encourage
further use in the UK.
Fletcher's Four Seasons work perfectly in the story walk setting, providing a fun and educational activity. With Fletcher and the Springtime Blossom you can link the walks to the sights of nature in the spring. Go for an autumnal walk through the woods with Fletcher and the Falling Leaves, explore the sights and sounds of summer with Fletcher and the Summer Show and engage with woodland creatures with Fletcher and the Caterpillar.
Some of these include:
- Get to know a tree
- Roll down a hill
- Wear a wild crown
- Watch a bird
- Join natures band
- Discover what's in a pond
- Cook on a campfire
- Climb a huge hill
- Hatch a butterfly
How to get involved:
- Set-up a Fletcher themed story walk around your grounds, and when it's permitted, organise some Fletcher themed workshops during school holidays or for school trips.
- Graffeg will provide the resources to organise a story walk in your location, including A3 spreads of your chosen Fletcher story
- Graffeg can also provide books to review as well as graphics you might need to support your story walks
